What projects did you take part in during your internship?

I had two main projects at my internship. In the wet lab, my project focused on isolating cfDNA from human plasma samples to analyze the epigenetic alterations in Multiple Myeloma patients. In the dry lab, I utilized bioinformatic techniques to analyze and model a clinical data set of Multiple Myeloma patients. At the end of the internship, I gave a 10-minute scientific talk to my peers at the institute on my research findings.

How did you get the internship?

I first heard about the internship from my research mentor (Dr. Lantz) at GVSU, who encouraged me to apply. I applied for the internship in late January, interviewed in early March, and got word that I had secured the internship in early April. The application included a personal statement, resume, two letters of recommendation, and an interview.
