The Applied Food and Nutrition program is competitive, requires admission to GVSU, completion of a secondary application, and corresponding materials.  Applicants must complete the prerequisites prior to the start of the program.  Applicants may apply while courses are in progress.  There is no waitlist for this program.

Priority Application Deadline:  February 15, 2025
Applications will continue to be accepted until all seats in the program are filled.

If you are not currently enrolled at GVSU or are enrolled but have not yet taken GVSU classes and have not met with a College of Health Profession (CHP) academic advisor, you should:

  1. Meet with a CHP academic advisor as soon as possible to review your transfer course equivalencies and program eligibility.
  2. Call the CHP Student Services Office at (616) 331-5900 to set up a prospective student advising appointment.



Required Documents

Two Electronic Recommendations

Two electronic recommendations are required:

  • Applicant will provide the full name and email address for their two recommenders in the application.
  • The College of Health Professions Student Services (CHPSS) office will send the "Recommender" a link to our electronic recommendation form. Once the "Recommender" completes the form, the CHPSS office will upload the recommendation to the applicant's file.
  • The recommendation link cannot be sent out until after we receive your completed application, therefore you are encouraged to submit your application no later than two weeks before the February 15th application deadline. 
  • It is your responsibility and a professional courtesy to notify your "Recommender" in advance that they will be receiving a link from our office and to respond promptly.

Individuals who have been involved in a criminal proceeding or charged with or convicted of a crime may not be eligible for clinical placement and/or national certification and/or licensure. Students who are unable to complete a clinical placement may not be able to meet program requirements for graduation. If you have been charged or been convicted of a crime please feel free to submit this application, however we encourage you to contact the Applied Food & Nutrition (AFN) Program Director, Professor Libby MacQuillan by email at [email protected]  to inquire how this could impact your completion of the AFN program.
