The following section consist of the Respiratory Care Track A (RSC) prerequisite courses. Please indicate how you intend to complete each of the courses to the best of your ability.

Anatomy & Physiology I (GVSU: BMS 208 or BMS 250)

Human Physiology Lab (GVSU: BMS 391)

This only applies to those that may have taken a separate Human Physiology Lab from the Physiology Lecture and received a separate grade. A separate Human Anatomy Lab (GVSU: BMS 309) is grade is NOT required.

The General Education Program at GVSU

The General Education (GE) program at GVSU is part of your overall degree requirements and consists of four areas below. 

  1. Foundations (9 courses) Physical Science, Life Science, Writing, Arts, Philosophy & Literature, Mathematical Sciences, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Historical Analysis
  2. Cultures (2 courses) Global Perspectives, U.S. Diversity
  3. Issues (2 courses)
  4. Supplemental Writing Skills - SWS (2 courses)


The following Respiratory Care Track A major courses are required and meet a GVSU General Education requirement from above as noted in parentheses.

  • AHS 321 (SWS)
  • AHS 340 (Issues)
  • CHM 109 (Foundations: Physical Science w/ Lab)
  • STA 215 (Foundations: Mathematical Sciences)
  • RSC 495 (SWS)

Currently enrolled GVSU can check their progress in completing the General Education and Major course requirements through Banner myPath. Non-GVSU students should meet with a College of Health Professions advisor to determine completed/remaining requirements. 

Advance Placement (AP) is accepted at GVSU, however students must have taken the exam and passed with a 3 or better. Students are responsible for sending their official AP Score Report to GVSU. 

Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA): 

Students that have attended a Michigan Community College and have met specific course requirements as outlined by their community college may be eligible for the MTA stamp. GVSU will award credit for the General Education Foundations and 1-SWS upon successful complettion of the MTA and the receipt of an official commumity college transcript bearing the MTA credential. If you are unsure of how this process works please contact the records office at your Michigan community college for further assistance.
