Wellness Resources

Food

Replenish: Provides food and personal care items to meet the short-term challenges that students may face when unable to purchase such items. Obtaining an adequate food supply is often a major component of financial stress and research has proven that inadequate nutrition decreases academic performance. 

Replenish locations:

Kirkhof 074 - Allendale Campus: open Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from Noon - 5,
and Wednesday and Thursday 12:30 - 5.
IMPORTANT - This Location will be closed Wednesday (9/28) - Friday (10/1) due to illness.

Steelcase Library  - DeVos Campus (1st floor entrance): open during library hours.

Health Services

Student Health Insurance

Campus Health Center Provides convenient and quality care for GVSU students, faculty, and staff. The Center offers a variety of health services, including treatment for injuries, infections, and illness; women’s health; allergy shots; physicals, and more.

GVSU Family Health Center: Provides convenience care appointments for minor illnesses and injuries and ongoing primary and preventative care services.

Mental Health Services

 University Counseling Center: A team of trained professionals is committed to improving the mental health of the GVSU student body through counseling, education & consultation. Free counseling services are offered to students such as one-on-one counseling, group counseling, emergency services, peer education programs, special events, and more

Recreation & Wellness | Student Wellness: Provides inclusive and diverse recreational opportunities that inspire participation, promote health and wellbeing, and encourage student development and success.

Alcohol & Other Drugs Services

Alcohol & Other Drugs Services (AOD): Provides prevention and education programming, online resources, individual or group therapy (in conjunction with the University Counseling Center), recovery coaching, and consultation.  GVSU also provides space for support groups that are open to students, faculty, and staff.

Institutional Grant Assistance Request FormGrand Valley State University provides institutional grant assistance which is available for admitted students who are having difficulty paying their tuition, regardless of their citizenship status. 

GVSU MyScholarships Database: The majority of scholarship deadlines fall between February 15 and March 1Students can begin to submit applications for the 2023-2024 academic year on October 1, 2022.

Special Circumstances & Financial Hardship RequestsIf you have determined that you are not eligible to file a Special Circumstances Request and are still in need of financial assistance, please complete the Financial Hardship Grant Request form. By completing this form, you will be considered for many different types of funding, including: Textbook & Supplies Fund, Momentum Fund, Student Support Fund, Opportunity Fund, GVSU hardship dollars, and Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds.

Clothing and Necessities

If you are a student who is in need of clothing and/or other necessities while attending GVSU, please contact Replenish.

GVSU Computer Lab Hours and Locations

If you are in need of a temporary loan (2-3 weeks), please contact Emily First at [email protected].

*Low-Income students who are in need of a longer-term computer loan can also contact Emily First at [email protected] who can help look into some potential resource options.

Students can use the Grand Valley's WiFi network, by parking in pay-to-park spaces in the Eberhard Center lot or the RV: Lot B Parking Area.

Transportation

If you are a student who needs access to transportation while attending GVSU, please refer to the resources below:  

 

Free rides are also available with your student I.D. on any Rapid bus throughout Grand Rapids and the surrounding areas. Click here for schedule and route information.

Students can also contact the GVSU Financial Aid Office about emergency fund options for transportation purposes.

SASC Programs: 

Success Coaching: Success Coaches work with students to provide tools, strategies, and resources to help them in their academic journey here at Grand Valley. 

Academic Success Workshops: Provides information about organization, time management, study skills, and other topics that can contribute to your academic success!

 

Tutoring Center

Tutoring Center: Aims to help students understand difficult content by clarifying questions related to the subject, providing practice with problems and concepts, and teaching study techniques.

Writing Center

Writing Center: The Writing Center's well-trained peer consultants can help you to brainstorm ideas, organize content, integrate research, polish a draft, and correctly document sources. Any graduate or undergraduate GVSU student can make an appointment or drop-in during any of our open hours

 Student Accessibility Resources: Student Accessibility Resources (DSR) provides support resources and accommodations that enhance the environment for persons with disabilities and to help educate the university community on disability issues.

Career Center: Provides personalized advice and information regarding your career plan, assistance in internship and job searches, practice interviews, advice related to your internship or job search, resume and cover letter review, etc. Schedule an appointment with the Career Center!

Gayle R. Davis Center for Women and Gender Equity

Gayle R. Davis Center for Women and Gender Equity: The Center for Women and Gender Equity strives to create meaningful learning about gender and to advocate for gender justice through the education, engagement, and empowerment of students and the greater GVSU community. Programs, resources, and support services include Victim Advocacy, Victim Prevention, and Fostering Laker Success. 

The Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center

The Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center: Advocates for institutional equity, promotes community-building, and provides educational opportunities to create an informed, cohesive, and just campus where community members of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender presentations are supported and welcome.

Laker Connections

Laker Connections: The Laker Connections programs include: Asian Student Achievement Program (designed for students who identify as Asian), Black Excellence (designed for students who identify with the Black/African American culture), Black Male Scholars (designed for students who identify as Black men), Laker Familia (designed for students who identify as Latino/a/x), and Mno’chigewin: Native Student Success Program (designed for students who identify as Native American). Together, these programs are designed to create an environment where students can achieve their potential at GVSU while being their full, authentic selves. These programs are open to all students and embody GVSU’s values of diversity, equity, and inclusion and the Office of Multicultural Affairs’ commitment to student success.
