Abstract

Rogowski coils are used in current monitoring applications, such as power metering and troubleshooting. Rogowski coils are an alternative to Current Transformers (C.T.) that are sometimes preferred due to their lightweight design, mechanical flexibility, and stable performance at different temperatures and currents. A Rogowski coil integrator was designed to integrate a voltage signal from a Rogowski coil. A Rogowski coil is placed around a primary conductor, and the magnetic field given off by the conductor induces a voltage across the Rogowski coil. This voltage is proportional to the rate of change of the current being measured. An integration of the Rogowski coil voltage is performed to achieve a signal representative of the primary conductor current waveform. The Rogowski coil integrator is connected to a Rogowski coil and an external power source and outputs a waveform proportional to the AC current of the primary conductor. The Rogowski coil integrator will have an enclosure and be highly accurate relative to other Rogowski coil solutions on the market. The Rogowski coil integrator will also be able to perform well at higher temperatures (60 ℃+) as they are often used in hot environments, such as near industrial transformers.
