An image of Matthew Berkman and description of his talk.

In the late 1960s, changes in the salience of Israel for American Jewish organizations coincided with developments in U.S. race relations to produce a new communal paradigm, “the New Anti-Semitism,” that identified anti-Zionists, Black power radicals, and the far left as the primary sources of antisemitism. This talk traces the development of ideas and institutions associated with that paradigm from its origins after the Six-Day War to the recent attempts to expand it in the wake of the 10/7 attack and campus protests against the subsequent war in Gaza.
