Bring Your Own Beta (BYOB) Bouldering Competition

Our 26th Annual Climbing Competition at GVSU! This competition is as much, if not more about having some good times with friends and the climbing community as anything else. It's a great event for those who are new to competing. Competitors may register for one of 2, 2-hour blocks for open climbing. The event will cap at 70 participants, 35 per block. Our competition follows a redpoint format where problems must be climbed from start to finish without falling. As many attempts as desired can be made on each climb but a point deduction will be factored into your score for each fall. The harder the climb, the more points you get for completing it. At the end of your 2-hour block, scores for the 4 hardest climbs completed will be tallied to determine the top 3 competitors in each category.

All competitors who register by October 31 are guaranteed a competition t-shirt (we'll order a few extras, but no guarantees we'll have something in your size).

New Categories for 2025:

Recreational (V0-V2),
Intermediate 1 (V2-V4),
Intermediate 2 (V4-V6)
Advanced (V6+)

Finals Round: NEW THIS YEAR, only the top 3 competitors in the Intermediate 2 and Advanced categories will compete in a finals round. Each finalist will climb 3 routes instead of the usual 1.

Cost: $22-$25 based on affiliation; Spectators are welcome to attend free of charge.

8:15-8:45 Group 1 check-in
8:45-9:00 Group 1 competitor rules meeting
9:00-11:00 Group 1 climbing
10:15-10:45 Group 2 check-in
10:45-11:00 Group 2 competitors meeting
11:00-1:00  Group 2 climbing
1:00-2:00  Break (scoring & finals round setup)
2:00-2:15 Finalist rules meeting (only top 3 in Int 2 & Adv)
2:15-3:30 Finals round climbing
