Frank Vaca’s presentation is in collaboration with the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council.
Frank Vaca embodies the spirit of empowerment through his tireless
advocacy and leadership in supporting marginalized communities. From a
young age, Frank faced formidable challenges, yet his determination
and resilience propelled him to become a driving force for positive change.
Throughout his career, Frank has championed various initiatives
aimed at uplifting individuals and communities facing systemic
barriers. His work with organizations like the Michigan Disability
Rights Coalition (MDRC) and Elevatus Training Advisory Board
underscores his commitment to fostering inclusion and empowerment. As
a coordinator for MDRC Leaders for Inclusion, Frank plays a pivotal
role in shaping policies and programs that promote accessibility and
equality for individuals with disabilities.
Frank's approach to empowerment is multifaceted, encompassing
education, advocacy, and community engagement. He believes in the
power of listening to marginalized voices, amplifying their stories,
and advocating for meaningful change. By creating platforms for
dialogue and collaboration, Frank empowers individuals to become
agents of change within their own communities.
Learning Outcomes - Participants will be able to:
- Learn information about the effects of myths and stereotypes about people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their sexuality.
- Explore sexual self-advocacy: what it means, and how to promote it.
- Hear about ways to engage the LGBTQIA+ community in your work.
- Learn information about the rules, about teaching Sexuality Education in Michigan schools, information on ways to stay involved in sexuality education initiatives
