Ethical Leadership Challenge with Panel & Freshman Leadership Awards

The Ethical Leadership Challenge offers a series of engaging presentations and discussions within a supportive environment. Participants will be able to examine, discuss, and delve into ethical dilemmas inspired by the real-life experiences of students, faculty, and administrators at various colleges and universities. Each scenario presents a unique ethical challenge, inviting participants to reflect on how they would respond in such situations. The program is informed by research on both Consequentialist and Non-consequentialist ethical theories and explores the distinctions between ethical and moral behavior. Following the challenge, we are pleased to host a panel of esteemed leaders who will share their insights on maintaining ethical practices in their daily leadership roles. To conclude the event, we will honor the recipients of the Freshman Leadership Award, selected from nominations submitted by faculty, staff, and student organizations.

Tim Reed (Vice President) and Jamie Bouldin (Director of Membership Services) from National ODK Headquarters will facilitate the Ethical Leadership Challenge.

Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, was founded December 3, 1914, at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia by 15 student and faculty leaders. The founders formulated the idea that leadership of exceptional quality and versatility in college should be recognized, that representatives in all phases of college life should cooperate in worthwhile endeavors, and that outstanding students, faculty, and administrators should meet on a basis of mutual interest, understanding, and helpfulness. ODK was the first college honor society of a national scope to give recognition and honor for meritorious leadership and service in extracurricular activities and to encourage the development of general campus citizenship. Chapters, which we call Circles, are located on more than 300 campuses nationwide. The Society recognizes achievement in the following five areas: Scholarship, Athletics, Campus/ Community Service, Social/Religious Activities, Campus Government Journalism, Speech, and the Mass Media Creative and Performing Arts.

Additional information about ODK can be found at http://gvsu.edu/leadership and http://www.odk.org.

Applications are accepted from sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students each fall and winter semester.
