Faculty Workshop: Decoding Accommodation Memos

In this workshop designed for GVSU faculty members, we will: 1) examine a sample accommodation memo, 2) learn how to provide the accommodations listed without compromising course integrity, and 3) better understand your rights as a professor, and your legal obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

We'll discuss...

what information is included on accommodation memos
what information is excluded
The process DSR uses to approve accommodations
Resources available to faculty when providing accommodations
A sample accommodation memo that includes
- Periodic Absences
- Public Speaking Alternative
- Classroom recordings (aka Note taking technology)
- Frequent Breaks
- Service Animal
- Refrain from calling on student

A Question & Answer session will follow the planned discussion.
