Richard Damstra

Richard Damstra is a State Department Foreign Service Officer. He is currently on a detail assignment to NATO where he serves as the Special Advisor to the NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy. He previously served as the public affairs officer at the U.S. Embassy in Latvia, directing the team responsible for strategic communications, press relations, social media, grants, exchanges, and education and cultural programs. He also served as a press officer in Hungary, a cultural affairs officer in Bulgaria, a vice consul and fraud prevention manager in Ukraine, and a political officer in Kazakhstan. In Washington DC, Richard served in the Office of the Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia as the Ukraine Assistance Coordinator. Prior to joining the U.S. diplomatic service, Richard practiced law at a commercial law firm in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He received a political science degree from Grand Valley State University and a law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law.
