Welcome to GVSU's Comic Book Club! We discuss anything that could possibly come to mind when it comes to the world of comic books! We are always accepting new members. The Grand Valley Animators Guild is an all-inclusive group that welcomes all animators and animation geeks both new and experienced. We are a group founded for collaborating and creating new animations for ourselves and outside clients. However, a main goal for this club is what our members want to do, so if you want to just geek-out about the latest animation you saw then that's awesome with us too!

If you request an invite, we will accept it as soon as we can. By signing up through LakerLink you will be receiving weekly emails from us, the "meeting minutes," just in case you can't attend a streaming session or forget something that we talked about. As well as any important announcements will be sent via email and in our Discord Server.

Please join us on discord where we freely chat at any time! (this is where we're most active)

Otaku no Anime is GVSU's official Japanese Animation club. This club was founded in 1996 for the purpose of sharing and watching movies of this genre. We screen anime every Sunday during the fall and winter semesters, starting at 6:30pm and ending at 8:00pm, and screen some fun stuff prior to the meetings like AMVs and other nerdy videos. We also hold special weeknight showings from time to time. Our mission statement is:

"To study and learn to appreciate Asian animation culture, to provide students with the chance to learn about various visual animation mediums along with their cultural and artistic significance, and to promote anime as an entertainment medium and as part of Japanese culture by sharing and showing all types of movies and series of this genre."

The club name, "Otaku no Anime", means Otaku's Anime or Anime of the Otaku. The word "otaku" itself is used in Japan to describe someone obsessive with anything in particular, like trains, music, model kits, etc. However otaku is used especially outside Japan to describe anime fans. The name is derived from a famous anime: Otaku no Video, the quintessential anime describing what anime is itself! General membership is open to anyone that wants to sign up and has an e-mail address for us to send our newsletter; you need not be a student. Full membership is available to any Grand Valley State University student, and does have it privileges. Full members can borrow from the library and vote for officers. The best part is that it is free to join for anyone. It is also free to come to any showing, member or not.
