The Michigan Child Protection Law, 1975 PA 238, MCL 722.621 et seq., establishes the obligation for specific individuals, known as mandated reporters, to report instances of child abuse and neglect. Additionally, it allows all individuals to report such incidents. This law outlines the legal obligations surrounding the reporting, investigation, and response to child abuse and neglect. The purpose of this document is to support mandated reporters in comprehending their responsibilities under the Child Protection Law. Mandated reporters play a crucial role in the child protection system, as their expertise and direct interactions with children equip them to identify potential cases of abuse and neglect more effectively. Reports submitted by mandated reporters are verified at nearly twice the rate compared to those from non-mandated reporters.
The two trainers for this event are Julie Leeson, Prevention and Community Outreach Director from the Children's Advocacy Center, and Kendall Mose, Ottawa County MDHHS MYOI Coordinator.
