In a day of GPS its important to know what how to navigate without modern technology. Map reading is a critical skill in all outdoor activities. At our intro to navigating workshop we will highlight some essential skills for using a compass and reading a map. The primary focus will be on associating map features with the surrounding terrain to navigate effectively.
Meet at the Kirkhof clocktower for this hands-on event. Dress for the weather and anticipated conditions for wandering around the ravines. Compasses & maps provided.
These OA events are weekly social gatherings planned by and for GVSU students who are into hiking, camping, &/or backpacking. While we do plan to have a topic each week, it's meant to be a more informal exploration, focused on sharing ideas and having fun with other outdoorsy students. This semester, they'll be Mondays at 5p with varying end times.
