2023 Student Camp Information
Camp Dates
Our first ever GenCyber camp is going to be held:
July 24 - 28, 2023
9:00 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. (check in 8:30-9:00am, check out 4:15-5:00pm)
Camp Location
We will be hosting the GenCyber camp, at our downtown Grand Rapids, MI location, in the Devos Center for Interprofessional Health building.

The GenCyber student camp is open to all high school students (entering grades 9 - 12) in the U.S., with preference given to rising juniors and seniors.
No Prior knowledge of computers and cybersecurity is required. However, it’s helpful to have a strong interest in computers and cybersecurity. Women and underrepresented minority groups in STEM are strongly encouraged to apply.
The camp also includes 18 hours of pre-camp activities and 18 hours of post-camp activities.
All these activities will be hosted virtually in two hour sessions from 4:00 - 6:00pm
Camp candidates are expected to participate in these activities as well. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend the activities live, but we plan to record the activities in case a participant must miss one.
Pre-Camp activities (18 hours) include:
- April 25th: Computer fundamentals part 1
- April 27th: Computer fundamentals part 2
- May 2nd: Networking part 1
- May 4th: Networking part 2
- May 30th: Linux basics part 1
- June 1st: Linux basics part 2
- June 20th: Cybersecurity concepts part 1
- June 22nd: Cybersecurity concepts part 2
- July 11th: Cybersecurity current events
Post-Camp activities (8-10 hours) include:
- August 2023: Post-secondary cybersecurity educational opportunities outreach session (2 hours)
- September 2023: Cybersecurity scavenger hunt outreach session (2 hours)
- October 2023: Malware introduction session (2 hours)
- November 2023: Cybersecurity current events session 2 (2 hours)
- December 2023: Social engineering session (2 hours)
- January 2024: Cybersecurity in west-Michigan session (2 hours)
