Teaching and Learning
I enjoy working with students and colleagues, and teach a variety of courses for the geology and integrated science programs. I teach GEO100 - Environmental Geology, GEO103 - Oceans, GEO111 - Exploring the Earth, and GEO203 - Weather and Climate. I am also a trained GLOBE atmosphere instructor, GLOBE stands for "Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment" sponsored by NASA, NOAA, and NSF.
Before coming to GVSU, I completed my M.S. in Geosciences at Mississippi State University (MSU). As part of my coursework I took part in a two week field course on San Salvador in the Bahamas to apply what I learned in the geosciences. More recently, I completed a two week storm chasing course to get hands on weather-tracking experience. Before coming to Grand Valley I taught earth science at the secondary level for 13 years in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Madison Wisconsin, and Kansas City, Missouri.
