The Laker Traditions team is hosting an event October 11 to increase excitement for Battle of the Valleys, which runs November 11-16.

Student Senate President Ricky Benavidez and the Laker Traditions team will give presentations in the Grand River Room of the Kirkhof Center, and the winner of the “GV’s Got Talent” contest will be announced. It will take place from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

The winning design for the Battle of the Valleys T-shirt will also be announced. Voting ends October 9 at www.gvsu.edu/battleofthevalleys; students must vote through OrgSync.

For the 11th year in a row, Grand Valley will compete with Saginaw Valley State University to raise the most donations for a selected charity. Donations from this year’s battle will be donated to S.P.O.R.T.S. (Students Providing Opportunities and Recreation Through Sports), an organization created by Grand Valley student Tyler Kinch that aims to bring sports to underprivileged children.

The winner will be announced at halftime during the Grand Valley vs. Saginaw Valley football game at Lubbers Stadium November 16.

Sponsored by Grand Valley’s Student Senate, Battle of the Valleys aims to develop school pride and bring together students to support a charitable cause. Students will have opportunities to donate online or purchase a T-shirt during the week-long battle.
