Annual A/P award winners announced

Fourteen people won A/P awards and four others were honored for 25 years of service at the annual Administrative/Professional luncheon April 20 in the Kirkhof Center. 

Karen Meyers, director of the Regional Math and Science Center, received the A/P Achievement Award, the highest honor presented to an A/P staff member to recognize that person's outstanding contributions to Grand Valley. 

Meyers also serves as an administrative coordinator for the GVSU integrated science major. For the past 24 years, Meyers has made a far-reaching impact on K-12 math and science education in the community, at Grand Valley and across the state of Michigan.

Recipients of the other A/P awards are detailed below.

• Outstanding Academic Advising and Student Services: Julie Amon-Mattox, senior academic advisor, CLAS Academic Advising Center

• Commitment to Diversity: Marla Wick, assistant director, LGBT Resource Center

• Commitment to Students: V'Lecea Hunter, enrollment development counselor

• Innovation: David Shultz, supervisor, Language Resource Center

• Service to Community: Jarek Kozel, lab supervisor and instructor, Anatomy and Physiology

• Outstanding Team Project: GVSU Votes — an effort led by students and staff members to educate and encourage students to become registered voters. About 16 voter registration drives were hosted by various student organizations from August through October. More than 3,000 students registered to vote.

• Kim Schmidt, associate director, Alumni Relations

• Edward Spier, program manager, WGVU Public Media
