Laker Light to shine in honor of Rich DeVos
President Thomas J. Haas said Grand Valley flags on all campuses will be at half-staff for the next two weeks in honor of Rich DeVos, who died September 6.
In a special tribute to DeVos, Haas said the carillon towers on the Allendale and Pew Grand Rapids campuses will have a blue "Laker Light" that will last through the funeral.
Haas called DeVos one of Grand Valley's greatest leaders who was instrumental in nearly all of the university's capital campaigns, most notably the development of the downtown Grand Rapids campus. DeVos served on the GVSU Board of Trustees before leading the Grand Valley University Foundation for 24 years.
Public visitation has been set for September 12 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in the Ambassador Ballroom. A private, invitation-only celebration of life service will be held September 13, at 2 p.m. at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids. The public is invited to view a simulcast of the service at the DeVos Performance Hall from 2-3:30 p.m.
