The end of the semester means most students who live on campus during the year move out of their rooms and return home.

This year is different, as most left when President Philomena V. Mantella announced Grand Valley would shift to remote instruction for the remainder of the Winter 2020 semester in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students who have not already moved out their belongings are now doing so during a designated period to assure adequate social distancing in accordance with public health guidance.

The move-out process for students who have not collected all of their belongings began May 1 and will continue through May 10. Housing and Residence Life created a process where students sign up to check out by visiting the myHousing portal in myBanner.

Students can select a date that works best for their needs. Housing buildings will be open to residents from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the specific day they requested to move out. Check-out is self-serve with printed instructions.

In accordance with an executive order from Gov. Whitmer, residents are encouraged to limit the number of people they bring with them to assist with move out. No person who has felt ill during the 14 days before move out should travel to campus. All visitors to campus should wear masks.

Once items are ready to be moved out of a building, cars may park adjacent to the building for 15 minutes while loading.

Keys, access cards, and laundry cards should be placed in their checkout envelope and sealed. Express checkout envelopes may be dropped in designated locations in living centers. Residents must then login to myBanner, myHousing, and click the “complete express checkout” button.

Residents who have already removed all personal items from their on-campus room or apartment may put their keys, laundry card and access card in a reinforced envelope and mail it to the following address:
