COVID-19 Alert Level drops to Level 2

The Virus Action Team has changed Grand Valley's Alert Level to Level 2, effective immediately.

This is the first time during the Winter semester the Alert Level has dropped to 2, or medium alert, indicating that some COVID-19 health indicators on campus and in the community have lessened.

Alert Level 2 means there still is a moderate number of positive cases on campus, but the number has decreased.

While the move to Level 2 is good news, campus community members must remain mindful of health and safety protocols. This includes continuing to wear a mask when inside any campus building.

This article from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention details how effective wearing a mask is in reducing the risk of testing positive or spreading the virus. The article also shows different types of masks (cloth, surgical and N95/KN95) and their effectiveness in lowering the risk of testing positive.

As a reminder, Grand Valley has made KN95 and medical procedure masks available for campus community members who wish to wear these. Departments can order these masks through the normal Facilities Services process.

Students can pick up these masks on the Allendale Campus at the Recreation Center, Mary Idema Pew Library or Kirkhof Center, and on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus at the Eberhard Center.
