Inaugural Day of Giving allows Lakers to unite to support student success

For the first time, Lakers have one designated day to collectively show their support for Grand Valley and unite for student success.

March 21 is GVSU Day of Giving. With a theme of "Lakers Give Back," the Grand Valley community is invited to support funds across campus, including scholarships, academic programs, research, arts and more.

Challenges and match gifts for Day of Giving mean donors can increase the impact of their gift. Anyone who gives $67 (to honor the Pioneer Class of 1967) will receive a pair of GVSU socks. Explore the funds, matching and challenge gifts, and track campaign progress on the Day of Giving website .

Laura Aikens, vice president for University Development, said giving days are common among national universities, offering alumni, faculty and staff, community members and students a designated period to collectively support their passions and initiatives.

"Our inaugural Day of Giving is about giving our alumni and friends a way to invest in the things they really care about, and we know our collective impact will be immense," Aikens said.

"The entire Grand Valley community has always shown up for our students, and we’re excited to offer one more way for people to rally around the mission and vision of the university."

An on-campus celebration is planned from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, in the Kirkhof Center lobby. The Laker community is invited to enjoy games, food and a photo booth.
