GVSU football players run on to the Lubbers Stadium field through a cloud of blue smoke.

No. 6 Lakers welcome Wayne State for Homecoming

A stinging loss to rival Ferris State in the Anchor-Bone Classic means No. 6 Grand Valley will need some help if it hopes to win its third straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship.

The Lakers (7-1 overall, 3-1 GLIAC) sit in a three-way tie for second place in the conference, alongside Davenport and Saginaw Valley, with three games remaining.

This weekend, Grand Valley takes on Wayne State for Homecoming on November 2 to Lubbers Stadium. Kickoff is 3 p.m.

Wayne State (0-8 overall, 0-4 GLIAC) has struggled this season, still in search of its first win. Over the last three seasons, the Warriors have won just four games; and against Grand Valley, Wayne State has only one win in 20 meetings.

Despite the loss to Ferris State, Grand Valley still ranks among the offensive and defensive leaders in Division II, which will likely create a difficult matchup for the Warriors.
