President Haas, Laker Marching Band, Dance Company to kick off ArtPrize 10

The ArtPrize opening ceremony will take place Wednesday, September 19, from 7-9 p.m. at Rosa Parks Circle in Grand Rapids. The Laker Marching Band will begin the festivities with a performance at the Eberhard Center before performing again at Rosa Parks Circle with the GVSU Dance Company, President Haas and Louie the Laker.

Army veteran behind ArtPrize entry to discuss journey from soldier to artist

After retiring from the United States Army in 2015 following 17 years of service, Kimberly Walker began searching for her purpose as an artist, which she eventually found in the form of sharing stories of sexual assault in the military through art. During this year's 10th anniversary of ArtPrize, Walker's piece, "Locked and Loaded," will be the sole entry located at the Eberhard Center. Walker will discuss her ArtPrize entry, as well as her journey from soldier to artist, during a special presentation on September 20.

Army Combat veteran chosen to display artwork at GVSU during ArtPrize

After retiring from the United States Army in 2015 following 17 years of service, Kimberly Walker began searching for her voice as an artist. She has since found that voice in the form of sharing stories of sexual assault in the military through her artwork. Walker, an Ohio-based artist and Army Combat veteran, was selected during a recent ArtPrize Pitch Night on May 29 to become the sole artist who will display artwork at Grand Valley's Eberhard Center during ArtPrize, taking place September 19-October 7.

ArtPrize Nine to kick off with Laker Marching Band, GVSU Dance Co.

The ArtPrize Nine kickoff event will take place Wednesday, September 20, from 7-8 p.m. at Rosa Parks Circle, located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. The 220-member Laker Marching Band will begin the festivities with a performance at the Eberhard Center on Grand Valley's Pew Grand Rapids Campus at 6:15 p.m. before marching in cadence across the Blue Pedestrian Bridge through downtown to Rosa Parks Circle.

GVSU students, faculty to compete in ArtPrize Nine

Three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids transform into an arts epicenter for 19 days each fall during ArtPrize, the world's largest open, independently organized international art competition. During this year's competition, taking place September 20-October 8, multiple Grand Valley students and faculty will display their work while competing for a piece of the more than $500,000 in prizes.
