Alumna improves guest experiences at Disney through statistics

Elizabeth "Biz" Stolz�s job is to make �the most magical place on Earth� that much more magical. The 2014 alumna currently works as an experience insights senior analyst at Disney Parks and Resorts in Orlando, Florida. During her daily work, Stolz analyzes various data sets from different lines of business at Disney to improve the guest experience at the parks and resorts. The types of data she works with include anything from resort and dining reservations to FastPass+ bookings.

Open tours, holiday concert planned for Grand Valley carillon towers

On November 28, the Grand Valley community is invited to tour the Cook Carillon Tower on the Allendale Campus. Hosted by University Communications, the tours will be facilitated by Julianne Vanden Wyngaard, university carillonneur, who will also perform a holiday concert on the Beckering Family Carillon on December 24 on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus.

Fall Arts Celebration holiday concert to honor "The Many Moods of Christmas"

Robert Shaw's "The Many Moods of Christmas" meshes together pieces of 18 of the most traditional carols combined with music from famous composers such as Handel, Bizet and Bach. Renowned choral conductor Craig Jessop will lead the Grand Valley State University Arts Chorale and local high school students as they perform the piece during a special Fall Arts Celebration concert. "Celebrating Holiday Splendor: Craig Jessop Conducts - 'The Many Moods of Christmas'" will take place December 3.

Students curating art exhibit for display in Sustainable Agriculture Project

A group of Lakers are developing an art exhibition that will showcase work by artists from around the U.S. in a unique venue near campus. "System Processing" will be on display at Grand Valley's Sustainable Agriculture Project, the university's educational farm located just north of the Allendale Campus, from 6-9 p.m. on November 29-30 with a reception taking place November 29.

Visual and Media Arts students to showcase capstone work during multiple exhibitions

More than 20 students from the Visual and Media Arts Department will showcase works that represent the culmination of their educational experiences at Grand Valley. Multiple exhibitions, from graphic design and photography to metals, printmaking and painting, will be on display beginning November 26.

Design thinking expert to host community workshops at Grand Valley

A design thinking expert will help Grand Valley students, faculty and the West Michigan community solve challenges through multiple design thinking workshops. Ela Ben-Ur has more than 20 years of experience consulting, coaching and teaching in design thinking research, strategy and innovation. During her career, she has collaborated with notable brands, including General Motors, Advil, IAMS Company and PowerBar. Ben-Ur will present "Design Thinking and You" on November 27.

GVSU announces digital library, traveling exhibit of work by artist Mathias Alten

Grand Valley's Art Gallery has launched a new online digital library that provides a comprehensive database of the life and works of late artist Mathias J. Alten. The university currently owns the largest single public collection of Alten's work. The university also recently received the gifts of the Alten Catalog Raisonné - a comprehensive, annotated listing of all the known works by Alten - and eight new paintings. Conference to help K-12 educators inspire future scientists

Educators from districts across Michigan will gather at Grand Valley to expand their K-12 teaching strategies during the annual Fall Science Update. The conference, sponsored by the Regional Math and Science Center, will take place November 14 on the Allendale Campus. This year's conference theme will be "inspiring science." Keynote speakers will include Terra Tarango and Patrik Brundin from the Van Andel ResearchInstitute.

Interfaith conference discusses religion identities in current climate

The role of religious communities to both cause and rectify social division and tribalism was the topic of discussion during the Jewish/Christian/Muslim Triennial Interfaith Dialogue Conference at Grand Valley November 14-15. Presenters included Jennifer Howe Peace, professor of interfaith studies at Andover Newton Theological School; Elliot J. Cosgrove, senior rabbi at Park Avenue Synagogue, the largest conservative synagogue in New York City; and Eboo Patel, founder and president of Interfaith Youth Core.

Unique African dance technique to be performed during Fall Arts Celebration

Grand Valley will celebrate the vibrant history of African dance during this year's Fall Arts Celebration. "Kariamu and Company: Traditions - A Celebration of African Dance" will take place November 12 on the Allendale Campus. The event will feature a performance of the Umfundalai technique, which was developed by Kariamu Welsh - a Guggenheim award-winning dance scholar, choreographer and educator.
