Job Summary
Assist in Course Materials Department & provide quality customer service and assist with ordering merchandise and maintaining inventory records.
Essential Functions:
- Provide customer service on the sales floor & via telephone by responding to customer inquiries and resolving concerns.
- Place routine purchase orders with vendors. Monitor receiving status, follow up on any problems (short-ships/damages), make necessary system adjustments & alert Course Materials Manager of ongoing issues.
- Maintain stock levels in respective departments/locations: initiate transfers to & from the Grand Rapids store (including web order requests), oversee access card stock, complete physical inventories and place reorders.
- Make course material purchasing and sell back decisions, using sales history data and enrollment information. Contact faculty & academic departments when necessary.
- Supervise physical set up of sales floor & shelf tag placement.
- Schedule student staff and approve payroll.
- Process routine paperwork: review invoices and credits and approve for payment.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Order office supplies for departments.
- Assist with sell back: clean, sort, tag and stock inventory.
- Assist on the sales floor or cash register as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for receiving and pricing course packs from Copy Center and processing any paperwork.
Required Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
- Experience with various computer software applications such as Microsoft Office and/or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience to successfully operate office equipment.
- Data entry experience.
- Typing and spelling competency with grammar and proofreading skills.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience to successfully provide quality customer service
- Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate work activities of others.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
- Ability to successfully maintain positive intercultural and interpersonal relationships.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some college course work.
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience in a college bookstore or other retail environment.
- Knowledge of numerous software applications and an aptitude for technology.
- Knowledge of book publishers and their policies.
- General knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures.
- Willingness to work flexible schedule with some evening and weekend hours.
- Demonstrated experience to successfully perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
Supervision Received:
Receives general instruction from a designated supervisor but is generally expected to work independently.
Supervision Exercised:
Hire, train, supervise, schedule and coordinate the work of student employees and may act as lead worker to other PSS staff members within the department/unit/division.
