Objectives
- To enable students to gain valuable practical experience related to their academic field and to enhance their opportunity for employment upon graduation or acceptance into a graduate program.
- To enable an employer to maintain closer liaison with the Department and the University and to evaluate and train student interns as prospective full-time employees.
- To provide the academic program with a source of input on the current problems and needs of business and industry.
- Provide the student with real-life work experiences related to the student's major. The internship is just part of the student's total academic experience and should provide the candidate with a learning opportunity that has a direct relationship between the student's program of study and career interests. Assignments should go beyond standard office work to include research, writing, creative, technical, and other hands-on tasks related to their area of study.
- IT internship supervisors to participate in the CS internship preparation course (CIS 290).
- Practice interviews: students participate in “speed” interviews, in which they practice their interview skills with employers.
- Employer panel: market IT programs and opportunities to students.
