ABOUT THE LINKS U PEER PROGRAM
Being a college student is a challenge. Being a college student with a disability adds complexity to college life. In the fall of 2012, GVSU introduced an innovative peer program, known today as Links U. The program was designed to deepen the connection between students with disabilities and the Grand Valley experience. Fellow students, hired and trained by Student Accessibility Resources serve as peer mentors, collaborators, and supporters, as students with disabilities explore all the GVSU has to offer. Peer supporters help students with disabilities adjust to new environments and routines more quickly, in the hopes that well-connected and well-supported students will have a more fulfilling and enriching college experience.
When: Every Monday and Thursday from 4pm to 6pm
Who: Any student registered with Student Accessibility Resources is welcome!
How Links U Works
Links U is a program of GVSU's Student Accessibility Resource (SAR) office. Students with disabilities, registered with SAR are be invited to participate in Links U programming throughout the academic year. Peer supporters and interested Links U students participate in ongoing informational sessions, academic support, and social programming from GVSU resources that are coordinated by SAR. Peer supporters, SAR staff, and Links U programs are available to participants, in order to promote academic success and a more positive college experience. Peer supporters, Links U students, and SAR staff will create community standards that everyone is expected to follow.
