Description
Middle school and high school oboists are invited to register for a 90-minute Group Oboe Lesson with Dr. VavYíková. This event is free, but the number of participants is limited. Registration opens on October 1 and closes on November 15.

for Group Oboe Lessons
Dr. Marlen Vavrikova is Professor of Music at Grand Valley State
University in Allendale, Michigan. She was also Visiting Professor at
the University of Ostrava (2022) and Visiting Instructor of Oboe at
the Interlochen Arts Academy (2017). During summers she teaches at the
bi-annual Ostrava Oboe Master Classes. Her playing was praised as
"beautiful throughout, with a sensitive and lyrical touch, sure
technique and intonation, and a range of dynamics unusually wide for
oboists." (Fanfare) The compact disc "Petr Eben: Chamber
Music for Oboe" was recognized as "one of the most important
issues there has ever been of Eben's music." (Dvorak Society) Dr.
Vavrikova earned an Artist Diploma from the Janacek Conservatory in
Ostrava where she studied with Gabriel Sykora and Josef Zidek, a
Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music where she
studied with Professor Richard Killmer, and a Doctor of Musical Arts
Degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where she
studied with professors Nancy Ambrose King and Dan Stolper.
