GVSU Casting Club Secures Three Placements in this Years Cast In Steel Halligan Bar Competition
July 18, 2024
Congratulations to the GVSU Casting Club for securing three placements in this year's Cast In Steel Halligan Bar Competition organized by the Steel Founders Society of America. The team came 3rd place overall, 2nd place in the video category and 3rd place in the performance category!
The Casting club seeks to provide students with hands on casting experience in a creative and innovative manner. The student members are able to gain these skills through working with local manufacturing companies and getting hands on experience performing processes and other metalworking techniques. CAD, simulation, practical engineering design practices, and material testing are used as well.
Members of the Casting Club, together with their advisor Dr Abishek Balsamy Kamaraj, traveled to Milwaukee for the competition. The annual Cast in Steel competition involves teams building their own interpretations of historical weapons and tools and this year there were more that 40 teams compete from universities all over the world.
