Middle school students invited to 'Fall in Love with STEM'

While open to all middle school kids, Gipson said they do hope to attract a lot girls because research shows that around middle school age, they lose interest in science.
“We want to help all students stay interested in science and to realize that science is not a gendered activity,’’ said Gipson, president and co-founder of AWIS-WM.
Lauren Woolsey, professor of astronomy and physics at GRCC and event organizer, said students will be able to explore five stations designed to strengthen science, technology, engineering and math skills.
For example, at the Deep Impact: Craters on Earth (Astronomy) station, students will get to see how impact craters form by creating their own with some common household materials. Continue Reading
