Theseus and the Minotaur Game Wins People's Choice
April 24, 2017
The winner of the Winter 2017 PCEC Project Day "People's Choice" Award is Electrical Engineering student, Luke Ganzevoort, for his project "Theseus and the Minotaur FPGA Video Game." Ganzevoort's project, created as part of EGR 426 led by Dr. Chirag Parikh, collected more than 200 votes from visiting students.
Ganzevoort explained that, "In EGR 426 we learned how to program FPGA devices which allow engineers to run custom programs at fast speeds and to execute multiple processes simultaneously. Replicating the flash video game, Theseus and the Minotaur, allowed me to gain greater understanding and explore the capabilities of FPGAs. The game consists of a maze in which Theseus is trying to escape, all the while being chased by the Minotaur. It's an intriguing puzzle in which every move must be carefully thought out to avoid becoming the Minotaur's prey."
The Padnos College of Engineering and Computing hosts Project Day on the last Thursday of the fall and winter terms. Students from the School of Engineering, School of Computing and Information Systems, and Occupational Safety and Health Management program display and discuss their semester-long projects. Students from area high schools attend the event to see what Grand Valley students are working on and to learn how engineering, computing, and occupational safety apply to their everyday lives.
