1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
Upon graduation from GVSU in May 2007, I moved to Chicago to take
on a role for a local insurance company. While I loved the city and my
job, it wasn't fulfilling or something I saw my career in, it was only
a first job. One of my best friends (fellow GVSU grad) had been with a
company called TEKsystems for about four years at the time, and after
a long road trip home from Milwaukee in the summer of 2008, I
interviewed and started my career with TEKsystems as a Technical
Recruiter in Grand Rapids. I was in that role for just under two years
before being promoted to an Account Manager and moving to Milwaukee,
WI. While in Milwaukee, I consulted and served our manufacturing
sector one-year before servicing our local healthcare clients for the
last two years or so. After about three years in Milwaukee, I was
promoted to be the Director of Business Operations for our Detroit
office. This role oversaw the recruiting/delivery and sales operations
for greater Detroit. I was in Detroit for 6 years and 3 months before
accepting my next assignment with TEKsystems as Director of Business
Operations in Seattle, WA.
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
While there are many, what always comes to mind with this
question is the run to the first football national championship in
2002. There were so many exciting moments being a new Freshman in
college, and on top of that, the football was incredible on Saturday
nights. To top it all, a group of friends and I made the trip to
Florence, Alabama to witness the win. The whole experience of that
while being a first-year student always stands out.
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Take on challenges and opportunities that may scare or take you
out of your comfort zone. You will learn so much about yourself and
what you value in life.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
1. Fun 2. Friendship 3. Pride
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
Being a new parent of a baby girl, I'd like to continue to create
opportunities for her and other women in the world. Diversity of
thought and opportunity based on merit is at the core of my personal
beliefs. I hope I can help pave a path for her and others in the future.
