1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
Since graduation from GVSU, I have had the opportunity to explore
a variety of different fields through my various positions. I spent
time at Quicken Loans, focused on intern recruitment, intern
programming and social media. I later transitioned to United Shore
where I focused on content creation and corporate philanthropy. After
nearly 5 years of working in SE Michigan, I transitioned back to the
greater Grand Rapids area where I worked at Lake Michigan Credit
Union, primarily focused in corporate philanthropy and volunteer
program management. In March 2021, I started my journey on the east
coast in Boston, joining the Harvard Medical School Alumni Affairs and
Development team. Here, my focus is on fundraising, volunteer
management, events and student/alumni engagement.
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
My favorite GVSU memory was when I was named the West Michigan
Public Relations Society of America's 'PR Student of the Year.' This
wouldn't have been possible without my involvement in the Public
Relations Student Society of America - GVSU Chapter, GVSU's own
student-run public relations firm GrandPR and the great mentorship I
received as a Ad/PR student at GVSU.
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
The best piece of advice that I have received is to network (and
then maintain those relationships moving forward.) I credit the
fantastic Career Center at GVSU (where I was a student worker all four
years) in offering so many opportunities to network and meet
employers, in addition to their resume assistant, interview prep and
so much more. From there, I was able to tap into and utilize these
connections as I navigate(d) my way through my career. If I hadn't
utilized all of the career preparation resources and networking
opportunities offered from GVSU, I truly don't know if I'd be where I
am today.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Empowering Collaborative Remarkable
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
My main focus, in both my career and personal life, is to be a
connector; to ensure the people around me have the tools and resources
to truly find their passion. Whether it be a connection to a
nonprofit, an individual and/or a goal, I find so much joy in being
able to help people find their passion(s) and how to best support and
fuel those passions in their everyday lives.
