1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
My journey since graduation has been a diverse whirlwind. I
started out in the Social Work realm in Nashville, TN working for
Maximus. After migrating back to MI, I went into the IT/Program
Management field with Dart Container Corporation, then the State of MI
before settling down at the MEDC. I am currently married to a fellow
Laker (Will Connors ‘10) and we share a beautiful son.
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
My favorite GV memories are all of my memories hanging out with
my friends at my job at the 2020 Info Desk, Voices of GVSU Gospel
Choir, and my sorority sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
The BEST piece of advice I have ever received came from a GV
faculty member, and my Soror, Cassonya Carter-Pugh. She told me, “When
you settle for less than what you deserve, you get even less than what
you settled for.”
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Challenging Memorable Life-Changing
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I want to peel back the layers of the STEM world for black women
like myself. Even with a non-IT background, I was able to pivot and
create a thriving career in a very profitable industry. Black women
and black people are capable of anything... including taking the STEM
world by storm.
