Employer
School Counselor at Allegan ESA Tech Center

1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
I was hired at the Allegan ESA tech center two weeks before I graduated from Grand Valley with my master of education in school counseling. I passed my school counselor license test and I have since been at the tech center as a school counselor. I live in Allegan and I’m currently moving to Alamo with the purchase of my first home.

2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
It’s so hard to choose one favorite Grand Valley memory, but I would say attending the football games with my parents would be my favorite. My brother was in the Grand Valley marching band so we would always enjoy watching him play. My parents are both Grand Valley alumni and my dad was on the Grand Valley football team before the college became a university. We are a Grand Valley family through and through and it’s so fun to hear. My parents reflect on the positive changes Grand Valley has had.

3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Best piece of advice I’ve ever received is you can’t control what people think or say about you, but you can control how you think and see yourself. It’s so important for people to understand their worth. Everyone’s path is going to have mountains in valleys, but it’s about seeing the positive in those moments. There are still flowers in valleys, and you get to see the sunset and rise while you're tackling the mountains of the world.

4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand Valley experience.
Unity, Determination, and Aspiration

5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I would like to make a positive difference in the world regarding mental health and careers. As a school counselor, I work with many students regarding their mental health and career aspirations.
