ASME is a non-profit membership organization that enables and promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global engineering community develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods.

The Grand Valley State University student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is dedicated to helping its members succeed in engineering. Utilizing the rules and standards of the ASME professional society, we participate in organization and school competitions which encourage innovation and intelligent design.

Casting Club provides students with hands on casting experience in a creative and innovative manner. This club seeks to expand students' knowledge of casting as a manufacturing method and in designing to ensure effective casting. Students can further develop their engineering skills, with opportunities to grow in CAD, design intent, report writing, and project development. There may be opportunities to learn complimentary skills such as machining, metal working, and other finishing operations. Casting Club seeks to make casting interesting, safe, and engaging for students at GVSU.

GVSU Solar Racing Team

GVSU Solar Racing is a student organization at Grand Valley State University with the goal of successfully competing in the American Solar Challenge. Each team must design and build a solar powered vehicle that meets requirements set by the American Solar Challenge. In this challenge, teams from around the globe come together to take on the 1500-2000 mile cross country course. Our goal is to establish a club that appreciates and embraces the alternative energy improvements in the automotive industry. We are driven to not only be future engineers, but future leaders in the world of technological advances. The Rocketry and Aero Engineering Club strive to serve as a competitive group and an educational resource for all students who are interested in learning more about rocketry and aerospace engineering. The group strives to build up students’ skills and understanding of rocketry, physics, chemistry, engineering and related topics through lectures, workshops, and certifications in relevant skills. Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a not-for-profit educational and service organization founded in 1950 that empowers women to succeed and advance in the field of engineering, and to be recognized for their life-changing contributions as engineers and leaders. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career for women through an exciting array of training and development programs, networking opportunities, scholarships, and outreach and advocacy activities.

Grand Valley State University has maintained a collegiate SWE section since 2012. We hope to promote engineering as a fun, rewarding career option for all students, and encourage women to achieve their full potential. Our goal is to connect our members with the West Michigan community through networking events, service opportunities, group field trips and educational outreach. GVSU SWE and the School of Engineering have collaboration efforts with K-12 schools to mentor young girls who have interest in engineering.

Tau Beta Pi

Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society

Tau Beta Pi is an engineering honor society which bestows honors on junior and senior undergraduate engineering students who display exemplary character and outstanding academic achievement. The chapter at Grand Valley partakes in several community outreach projects each year including helping out at the regional Science Olympiad tournament hosted at Grand Valley along with the local National Electric Cart Association races. Tau Beta Pi is more than just a title on a resume. To be a Tau Beta Pi member you must demonstrate that you not only excel in academia but you strive to do more for your community and your peers. Tau Beta Pi members want to further their education and the education of their community.
