Dr. Annie Whitlock "The two books are pretty different, but they both were written to have impact on social studies teachers K-12. Place-Based Social Studies Education: Learning from Flint, Michigan is a narrative about the Flint water crisis and how that impacts/ed education in the city. There are recommendations for K-12 teachers and teacher educators to teach social studies in a more locally focused way. It was published in January. Hollywood or History? An Inquiry-Based Approach to Using The Simpsons to Teach Social Studies was published in October 2023. It is a collection of lesson plans written by educators for K-12 social studies teachers to use the show The Simpsons to teach social studies concepts."
