Faculty Message Re: COACHE Survey - November 30, 2023
Dear Colleagues,
The critical role of GVSU faculty as intellectuals, educators, innovators, mentors, role models, and coaches cannot possibly be overstated. Our faculty choose this profession and embrace it wholeheartedly because it is one of the most emotionally rewarding, and intellectually stimulating professions. The duties and expectations of the faculty role at GVSU, and elsewhere, have been changing and expanding.
The well-being of our faculty is one of my highest priorities. Understanding faculty experience and how it is changing will enable us as an institution to better serve them and provide them with the resources they need to continue to thrive and grow.
The Network of Advisors at GVSU recommended a more robust examination of faculty experiences within our community. As a result, GVSU recently joined the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) at Harvard Graduate School of Education. This initiative aligns us with 300+ institutions dedicated to improving faculty employment conditions and workplace climate.
Every GVSU faculty will be invited to complete a survey dedicated to faculty job satisfaction during the upcoming winter semester (2024). I strongly encourage you to take the time to share your experiences and complete the survey when you receive the email invitation. Sincerely,
Fatma Mili
Provost and Executive Vice President
