Guidelines for Dual Enrollment Partnerships

1. Purpose
These established guidelines allow high school students to participate in Dual Enrollment Partnerships through Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and simultaneously earn high school and college credits.

2. Eligibility
2.1. Students must be enrolled in a participating K-12 school district.
2.2. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
2.3. Students must meet GVSU's course prerequisites and placement requirements.

3. Partnership Process
3.1 The following steps are needed to establish a Dual Enrollment Partnership:
           a. The Office of the Provost works with high school administrators to identify courses of interest.
           b. Once course(s) is/are identified, the Office of the Provost connects with appropriate GVSU faculty and engages further with prospective high school partners.
           c. Once the program is approved, the MOU is signed by GVSU and High School representatives.
           d. The Office of the Provost works with the high school administration to collect required dual enrollment application materials.
           e. The Office of the Provost provides a final list to the high school administration, the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, and Student Accounts.

4. Application Process
4.1. Students must submit a Dual Enrollment application to GVSU.
4.2. Applications must include:
            a. Online Dual Enrollment application (https://apply.gvsu.edu/register/dualenrollment)
            b. Official high school transcript
            c. Dual Enrollment form signed by a high school counselor or principal and parent or guardian
 4.3. Application deadlines:
             a. Fall Semester: August 1
             b. Winter Semester: December 1

5. Course Selection and Credit
5.1. Courses must satisfy high school graduation requirements determined by the student's school district.
5.2. Courses will generate official GVSU transcripts and credits.
5.3. A maximum of two courses per semester may be taken through Dual Enrollment.
5.4. Courses must be 100- or 200-level unless special permission is granted.

6. Tuition and Fees
6.1. Tuition will be billed at the standard GVSU undergraduate rate unless there is an agreement for a discounted tuition rate.
6.2. Payment responsibility will be determined by the student's school district and state regulations.
6.3. Students are responsible for purchasing required textbooks and materials.

7. Academic Expectations and Support
7.1. Dual Enrollment students are expected to maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in their GVSU courses.
7.2. GVSU secondary admit programs require higher than a 2.0 GPA for admission.
7.3. Students can access GVSU academic support services, including tutoring and the writing center.

8. Credit Transfer
8.1. GVSU credits earned through Dual Enrollment will be recorded on an official GVSU transcript.
8.2. Credits may be transferable to other institutions, subject to their transfer policies.
8.3. Students must consult their intended college/university regarding credit transferability.

9. Communication and Reporting
9.1. The Dual Enrollment instructor will provide final grades to the student's high school at the end of the semester.

10. Program Evaluation
10.1. GVSU and participating K-12 districts will evaluate the Dual Enrollment program annually.
10.2. Metrics will include student performance, retention, satisfaction, and yield.

11. Guideline Review
These guidelines will be reviewed annually and may be adjusted to ensure program quality and compliance with state regulations and other GVSU policies.
