RecWell Stories
Amanda Filkins
Wellness is a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of
achieving full potential. How do you actively pursue your wellness?
The biggest thing I try to keep up with in my health journey is
making it a point to exercise as much as I can. I know on days that I
do my mood is much better, I'm able to handle stress easier, I feel
more confident, and I feel way less anxious. I journal often, read my
bible, and try to spend time outside when I'm able to and when the
weather allows.
What do you do to take care of yourself when you are feeling
stressed or overwhelmed?
I try to assess how I'm feeling mentally everyday and if
possible, adjust my workload accordingly to reduce anxiety. I run and
work out to also try to manage stress. Some days I try to give myself
permission to do nothing because my mind is telling me that's what I
need. It's a constant battle for a doer like me, but I've been
learning the more kind I am to myself mentally especially on my off
days, the better and more productive I feel in the long run.
What motivates you to be well and stay healthy?
I know how I feel when I'm in a good place physically and
mentally and it's the best feeling in the world. That feeling
motivates me to take care of my physical body and my mind as often as
I'm able to.
