Wellness is a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving full potential. How do you actively pursue your wellness?
I have struggled with my self-image and wellness in the past. I think it can be hard to put your health first sometimes in life, especially when it seems like your world is spinning at one hundred miles an hour. However, I have learned that it is important to be aware of both your own mental and physical health, and know when you need to take a step back and focus on you. The truth is, you can never really achieve your fullest potential if your well-being is not at it's best; it's at the root of everything. For me, a healthy lifestyle creates a happy life, and routinely checking-in with myself has helped me be the best version of myself.

What do you do to take care of yourself when you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed?
Sometimes it can be easy to get caught up in the little details - become overwhelmed by things out of your control. When I let stress get the best of me, I tend to let my thoughts consume my life which ultimately gets me nowhere. Getting up and getting active - whether it be simply getting outside, going on a walk or a hike, working out, or having a mini-dance party with my friends - has really helped me to be more positive and stay motivated. For me, being active and spending quality time with the people that matter most is the best medicine.

What motivates you to be well and stay healthy?
Surrounding myself with like-minded people, who will motivate and inspire me has always been really important to me. We are all creatures of habit, and I find that when I surround myself with people who have healthy and infectious habits, I am constantly encouraged to work at being my best self.

UNPLUGGED

What does unplugging mean to you?
Unplugging looks different for everyone. How much time you spend scrolling through your Twitter feed, watching story after story, or binge watching that Netflix show, it all adds up. It affects both you mental and physical health, as well as relationships and your connection to the world. For me personally, I try to remember I am the youngest I am every going to be right now, what kind of memories do I want to make? I am not going to look back on my life and wish I spent more time in isolation on my phones. I want to look back on all the adventures, life-changing experiences, and the people I met along the way. Unplugging is getting in touch with yourself, spending quality time with the people that matter, and leaving that device alone for a little while.

Why or how do you unplug?
Even if it is just for a few hours a day, making any effort to limit your screen time is so important. Actively trying to disconnect is so important for both mental and physical health. It decreases anxiety, depression, and makes for a healthier, happier lifestyle. It really is the little things like going for a walk or hike, family game nights, participating in a team sport, or even a little early-morning sunrise adventure with friends (my personal favorite). In my opinion, making the daily decision to get up and active is the key to success and happiness in life.

What is the importance of unplugging?
High-speed tech, and social media specifically, has increasingly become a huge part of our day-to-day lives. We now have this instant access to a whirlwind of information - any and everything we could possibly want to know at the touch of our fingertips. To think, we use it for work, school, entertainment, connecting with family members and friends, even celebrities. Humans are social beings, and when we are constantly attached to this digital world we are actually disconnecting from the physical world around us. This is why it is important to take a break, press pause, and just simply unplug once in a while. Readjust mentally and get back in touch with the world around you.
