The Army ROTC Scholarship

  • Two-, three- and four-year scholarships are available.
  • Army ROTC scholarships cover 100% tuition and fees 
  • $1,200 per year for textbooks, supplies, and equipment
  • $420 a month living stipend
  • Available for Undergraduate or Graduate degrees
  • Special consideration for Nursing and STEM majors

Scholarships for High School Students

The typical high school scholarship recipient at GVSU has a 3.4 GPA; scored a 25 on the ACT or 1180 on the SAT; played a high school varsity sport; and was a team captain, a student government leader, or held some other type of leadership position. You must apply online for an ROTC scholarship beginning in June between your junior and senior years.

High School Scholarship Application

To be eligible to receive an ROTC scholarship, a student must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be medically qualified.
  • Pass the Army Physical Fitness Test. High school students must pass a personal fitness test.
  • Meet Army height and weight standards.
  • Be a full-time student.
  • Be no older than 31 years of age on Dec. 31 of the year in which they graduate from college.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5. High school students must also have taken the ACT or SAT.

All ROTC scholarship recipients should file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid annually, as receiving an ROTC scholarship does not preclude you from accepting other forms of financial aid

Scholarships for current college students

Two, two and a half, and three-year campus-based scholarships are available to students who have at least two years left before graduating.

Scholarships for currently serving military members

Active Duty Green to Gold Program

The Army Green to Gold Program is designed to offer Enlisted Soldiers in the Army the opportunity to earn a commission as Army Officers. This program offers enlisted Soldiers several unique ways to earn a baccalaureate or graduate degree:

  • Green to Gold Scholarship Option — For Soldiers who are considering leaving Active Duty to attend college while receiving full tuition or room and board (capped), flat rate book payment, and a monthly stipend.
  • Green to Gold Active Duty Option — For Soldiers who want to remain on Active Duty and attend college.
  • Green to Gold Non-Scholarship — For Soldiers who are considering leaving Active Duty to attend college while receiving a monthly stipend.

Army National Guard and Army Reserve

The Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) program is designed for cadets who are interested in obtaining a commission in the U.S. Army Reserves or Army National Guard with a guarantee for a Reserve Component (RC) assignment. Scholarships cover full tuition and mandatory fees or room and board up to $10,000, and range in length up to 3 years. Scholarship awardees also receive a book allowance and a monthly stipend. GRFD Cadets also receive weekend drill and annual training pay as participants in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) which means they will attend a Battle Training Assembly (BTA) one weekend per month and a two-week annual training. The SMP pay rate is E-5 and the SMP contract can be used to change units so you can drill as a cadet, shadowing the officer branch you would like to eventually commission into. GRFD applicants must speak with the GVSU ROTC Recruiting Operations Officer before completing the application.
