Excellence in a Discipline | General Management

What is your favorite Seidman memory?

Through all of my semesters at Seidman, I’ve accumulated experiences across a variety of disciplines and made many fond memories along the way. Among these, my favorite(s) would simply be being able to connect with the professors and peers in each of these classes. This connection fostered engaging class discussions, as well as the sharing of knowledge, ideas, perspectives, etc.

Our building namesake – Bill Seidman – exhibited many desirable traits of a leader such as innovator, integrity, curiosity and future-minded. How did your experience at Seidman help you develop one or more of these traits?

Curiosity:
Taking courses and acquiring knowledge/skills across a variety of disciplines is a great educational experience to have, as it helps build a strong foundation. From this foundation, curiosity becomes very valuable. Some classes may focus in on a topic (ex. sports in marketing or economics) and apply learned concepts to new ideas. In my experience, this application fostered curiosity in terms of “where else” I may be able to apply what I’ve learned - whether that’s somewhere new, of interest, etc.

What would you like people in the community to know about Seidman graduates like you?

I’d like to note that Seidman graduates, like all GVSU graduates this year and in the ones recent, have endured very unique circumstances while completing their degree (ex. the transitions from remote/hybrid/in-person delivery). Even with these challenges, many remained dedicated to obtaining a valuable education. This shows an admirable drive through difficult circumstances and a continuous drive to improve. This same drive and focus will likely transfer to an individual’s future contributions (toward the community, society, an organization).

 What is your career aspiration?

As of now, my career aspiration is to gain valuable experience in a variety of environments, industries, etc., all while meeting new people and experiencing new places along the way. Simply, I’d like to continue to expand, grow, and help others do the same,

How did your time at Seidman College prepare you to contribute to your community as a Laker for a Lifetime?

My time at Seidman College offered me the opportunity to engage in many valuable experiences (in/out of the classroom) and helped me learn about the skills and practices relevant to serving the community and those within it. On top of this, being in Grand Rapids and being able to work alongside the community really helped in this process.
