Position Title: Affiliate Faculty Member in Statistics
Required Qualifications and Education:
- Evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence and creativity in introductory statistics courses. Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated interest in methods of instruction that utilize technology.
- M.S. degree in Statistics or related field with at least 18 graduate hours in statistics.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and access. This could include experience with inclusive pedagogies; research relating to marginalized populations or social inequality; engagement with community-based social justice work; and other forms of DEI-infused teaching, scholarship and service.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy.
Responsibilities: Duties include teaching 4 or 5 sections of introductory statistics classes per semester; one may be required to teach more than one prep per semester and/or teach a higher-level statistics course. Employment to begin in August of 2023.

About the Department: The Department of Statistics at Grand Valley State University places an emphasis on teaching excellence using inclusive pedagogies, active scholarship, and equitable service to the university and community. Our department offers a Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Applied Statistics, an undergraduate major in Statistics (with a potential emphasis in Actuarial Science), and minors in Mathematical Statistics and Applied Statistics. We jointly offer a Master’s degree in Data Science and Analytics and a minor in Data Science with the School of Computing Science and Information Systems. Currently our department has approximately 80 graduate students, 120 majors and 150 minors. The department and university are strongly committed to using technology in teaching at all levels.
