Graduate student for School Wellness Policies of West Michigan study

Terms: 20 hour per week position for a full-time graduate student. 9-month appointment (January 2015-September 2015). $ 10.10/hour
The graduate assistant will be working on the School Wellness Policies of West Michigan project. This involves a survey of West Michigan school districts in regards to their school wellness policies. This project’s main goals are:
- Examine the strength and quality of district school wellness policies and the reported implementation of school wellness policies.
- Examine barriers to implementation of school wellness policies in West Michigan schools.
- Examine the parents and stakeholders awareness of school wellness policies and their perceptions on the impact on the health of the community.
Job responsibilities:
- Develop surveys in Qualtrics
- Collect data from government sources and enter into excel
- Collect school wellness policies from all study districts.
- Score district school wellness policies using the 96-item Wellness School Assessment Tool (WellSAT-2).
- Responsible for collecting e-mails of principals and food service directors at all study schools.
- Responsible for managing Qualtrics survey responses
- Interact with faculty
Qualifications
- Have knowledge of/course work completion in the following software programs: Qualtrics, Google-docs, SPSS and Excel.
- Graduate student in good standing with Grand Valley State University
- Must be able to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a team of professionals.
- Attend meetings with research faculty
- Demonstrate excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Be able to work independently and take initiative
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate and value diverse populations
- Maintain a high level of professionalism
- Be able to work 20 hours a week starting Winter 2015 term to the end of Spring/Summer 2015 term.

Work Station: The GA will be assigned to a workstation in 328 Henry Hall with a study designated computer.
Orientation: The graduate student will receive training from research faculty team.
Supervision: GA will be supervised by the co-PI on this project, Dr. Lown. Dr. Lown will assist and guide the student through his/her job responsibilities.
