“My visit to campus showed me that Grand Valley has an incredible dedication to students and to colleagues,” Hall-Jones said. “I was impressed by the questions asked of me at the community interview. They were around strategy and student well-being. Everyone asked about how we are going to support students. That told me a great deal about what motivates the people at GVSU. I saw great camaraderie with the team here. I see tremendous opportunity to both be mentored and to use my skill-set to help students and the division of Student Affairs to thrive.”  Dr. Hall-Jones joined GVSU in February 2022, as the inaugural VP of Student Affairs.

As the Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Hall-Jones elevates students, their voices, and their experiences.  Her duties relate to the administrative operation of several student affairs departments that include:

Dr. Hall-Jones serves alongside a Student Affairs senior leadership team including an Associate Vice President and four Assistant Vice Presidents. Together, they lead student-centered strategies and programming, planning and assessment, financial and capital management efforts, and personnel supervision for the division. Other areas of significant focus for Dr. Hall-Jones are initiatives for Social Justice and Diversity Equity and Inclusion.

In addition to the VP duties, Dr. Hall-Jones, serves on GVSU President’s Senior Leadership Team, President’s Council, and the Board of Trustees Academic and Student Affairs Committee. She also serves as a VP member of The Michigan Association of State Universities (MASU) which is the coordinating board for Michigan's 15 public universities. Additionally, Dr. Hall-Jones is an participatory active member of the many planning committees including Student Affairs Digital Think Tank, Student Success Committee, and the Strategic Enrollment Management Plan.

Dr. Hall-Jones spent her academic and professional career at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.  As a three-time Bobcat, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, her Master of Education degree in College Student Personnel, and her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Higher Education. Dr. Hall-Jones spent 25 years working in higher education beginning in residence life, moving through the dean’s office, eventually becoming senior associate vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students. She previously acted as interim vice president for Student Affairs at Ohio University.

Jenny discovered her love of working with college students during her second year of college when she became a Resident Assistant (RA) on campus.   That single involvement and leadership opportunity led her to her current profession in student affairs.  Getting to work with students every day is her passion, and she is blessed to be able to do so at GVSU.

Jenny resides in West Olive, Michigan with her husband and partner Scott Hall-Jones (also a faculty at GVSU). She has two adult sons Casey and Bryan.
