Jocelyn Messer

Jocelyn Messer is a fifth year senior majoring in biomedical science with a chemistry minor. This is her second year as the president of GV’s Gift of Life, Grand Valley’s chapter of a non-profit based in Florida that encourages people to sign up for the bone marrow registry to help those with blood cancer and blood-borne illnesses.

When Jocelyn first started getting involved with Gift of Life at GV, the student organization primarily hosted events around campus to get students on the bone marrow registry. Since becoming a member of the club’s e-board, Jocelyn has been instrumental in the growth of the club. She instituted regular club meetings and has worked to reach out to new members.

She credits a classmate in high school needing a bone marrow transplant as her motivation to become involved. “I was devastated that I was not old enough to join the registry. Since then, I joined the registry to try to get everyone on the registry.”

Jocelyn hopes that her involvement on campus will further bring awareness to people in need. If you’re looking for a life-saving organization or a club that focuses on something you care about, check out all your options on LakerLink.
