Involvement Spotlights
Maya Sanders

Maya Sanders is a senior with a major in behavioral neuroscience. She is the president of the Lambda Pi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). The NPHC is the governing body of the historically Black Divine 9 fraternities and sororities.
Maya began her involvement with Greek Life because she wanted to get involved with the conversations related to current events; she felt that the conversations that are held within the NPHC reflected issues that were important to her.
Maya credits the “members who were on campus before I was initiated” for encouraging her to start attending events.
“Even though we remain one of the smallest groups on campus, our presence is large due to our commitment and dedication to serve,” Maya says.
Being involved with Delta Sigma Theta and NPHC has shown Maya that at Grand Valley, there is “a home away from home” for students of color. She has been able to evolve into a leader who is committed to helping others develop as professionals and work to address issues bigger than themselves.
