PIC Orientation for Faculty-led Programs
Instructions
Hello Global Laker! Before you depart on your #LakersAbroad adventure, let's first go over some information that you missed at your last pre-departure meeting! Complete the following 6 steps to help guide your understanding of important health, safety, and cultural components of your upcoming faculty-led study abroad program.
Step 1: Pre-Departure Forms
Login to the Study Abroad Application Portal (Via TRM) and complete the 4 required pre-departure forms
1. Health Form
- Provide basic health information for your faculty director.
- If you do not feel comfortable disclosing this information on the form, please speak with your faculty director so that they are aware of what you may need during the program.
2. Medical Insurance
- Please check with your insurance provider to see if you are covered abroad. All study abroad participants are required to be covered by health, accident, emergency evacuation, accidental death and repatriation, and hospitalization insurance for the duration of their study abroad program.
3. Passport
- Upload a copy of your passport to Via TRM. Make sure that it is signed and that you include both the photo page AND the signature page on the photo/copy that you upload.
- Check the expiration date of your passport. It needs to be valid for at least 6 months after your return date. If your passport expires less than 6 months after you plan to return to the US, you will need to renew it before you leave.
- Learn more about the application and renewal process for US passports.
4. Expense Form
- The expense form is already completed for faculty-led programs based on the estimated total cost of the program. You will provide additional information and submit it.
Step 2: Publicity Release Forms
Step 3: Student Responsibilities Module
This section includes an informational video and quiz on study abroad participant responsibilities.
Step 4: Health & Safety Module
This section includes an informational video and quiz on health and safety abroad.
Step 4: Cultural Adjustment Module
This section includes an informational video and quiz on culture shock, adjustment, and learning.
Step 6: Host Country Quiz
Complete the quiz below for your destination country.
The purpose of this "quiz" is to test your cultural knowledge of your host country at this point. This is meant to be a fun way to help you start to learn more about your destination. Most of the answers in this quiz can be found in the CultureGram provided to you on this webpage. I suggest completing this on your computer (rather than your phone) and it will help to have the CultureGram open while you work through the questions.
Checklist
Did you...
- Complete the pre-departure forms in the Study Abroad Application Portal (Via TRM)?
- Submit the publicity release forms via email?
- Complete all three learning modules?
- Complete your host country quiz?
If you answered YES to all of these questions, you have completed the online pre-departure orientation!
Thank you for completing this online orientation!
